Racial Profiling?

Here in the shadow of his first 100 days, President Obama, will get to nominate a new supreme court judge. And all I hear from the "experts" is he needs to seat a woman or a Hispanic, or even better a Hispanic woman! Gee, I don't hear anything about whether or not the candidate has the right credentials or experience. If the supreme court "needs" to be racially/sexually diverse, then why not Lance Ito? He could fill the Asian-American quota. Where is the Muslim judge? Mr. Obama, you don't "need" to seat a judge of a particular race or sex, you need to seat a judge who has the knowledge of constitutional law. The highest court in the land is not there to be diverse for diversity's sake, but to make rulings on cases according to the LAW.

Tax Day

Well, it's tax day and it sucks! My wife and I have to stroke a check for $800 for "under paid" taxes. It's amazing how we file as married and pay as single all year and still have to pay. Tea parties are happening all over America today, if I didn't have to work I would go to one. Thought about trying to set up a payment, but it costs you another $105! Just sent the check.

World Police

Why is it the job of the United States to be the world's police? Most countries don't like us, and some just down right hate us! Yet we are supposed to fight wars, pirates, and supply money for these same countries. We put our men and women, in our armed forces, in danger. We send our hard earned tax dollars to these countries. Tell me when are we as a country going to wake up? Call me heartless, or whatever, but I couldn't care less if people in other countries are killing each other over politics or religion, we have people here in the US killing each other. I don't care if people in other countries are dying of poverty or disease, we have people in our country doing the same. Yet, we keep sending our troops and our money overseas to the same countries who don't like us or hate us. Our borders are open to the world, terrorists fly into our airports everyday. Criminals cross our borders illegally everyday. We need to spend our money here in our country, helping our people. This is not hate speech, this common sense speach. This day, I am writing a check to the IRS for $800 for taxes I under paid over the year, and I wonder, how much of this is going to Somalia or another country to use to buy bullets, guns, or bombs to use against the country I love. WAKE UP AMERICA!

A sad farewell

Well, it's a sad day for me, as we say goodbye to the player who got me interested in baseball, the "Bird". There I was, a strapping 13 year old when he came on TV, talking to the baseball and stomping around the mound. I thought to myself, what a crazy guy, but I loved to watch him anyway, and foundly remember the 19 wins and rookie of the year award. I will miss you Bird, your career and life ended too soon.

Respect?

Where's the respect? Returning home from a recent shopping trip to Oak Ridge, I came upon a funeral procession. Being on a 4 lane, I got into the left lane and slowed down so as not to pass. A driver flew up behind me (going faster than the posted speed limit by the way) got right on my tail, then went into the right lane as if going to pass me, but came up to the end car of the procession and had to slow down. But, what really floored me was the amount of cars coming the other way that drove as if they weren't passing a funeral!

I can remember when every car would pull off to the side as the funeral passed. Do we not have the compassion or respect for our fellow man, that we no longer care that someone has lost a loved one? Are we so busy? What if that had been your loved one?

We worry about being PC for so many things. Worrying that we will upset someone about their race, religion, or sexual orientation, but we don't worry about people who are already upset about the loss of a loved one. Where are we heading people?

I hope that those people who just flew past without showing their respect, will remember that when they are in the funeral for their loved one as people go past without pulling over, we are just to busy with our lives to pay the respect that they "deserve".

Well....

Well, I was maybe just a little over zealous. I didn't take the Walmart job. They only hire for part time (after saying I would get more hours) & don't offer benefits! A billion dollar corp. and they don't offer benefits? Well, it's only going to get worse. So many people out of work, companies don't need to "give" you everything like they used to.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, great news! Got a job at Walmart today, start work Friday! Will work in the deli, not my first choice and only part-time, but it's a start. Also, got called for a job with the census bureau. It's only a 10 week job, but the money is better. I'm going to try to do both.

Lost the "Voice of radio"

Well, I see where we lost Paul Harvey yesterday. I for one am saddened by this loss, as I have grown up listening to him on the radio nearly everyday. I will miss his voice coming out of my speakers more now than ever, as I know it will only be as re-runs of his Rest of the Story series. I know his son has been doing them for a while, but there was hope until Saturday, that he would come back. Mr. Harvey, let me thank you for bringing those stories into my life, filling the parts of my day with news and bits. "Good Day".

Another week in a life...

Well, it's another glorious, God given week. I am hoping for some luck in job seeking this week, as I'm really tired of staying home and being "Mr. Mom". It was kind of fun the first few weeks, not having to get up at 5 AM, but doing it anyway to spend the morning with my wife before she left for work. But, now it's getting boring. I don't mind the cleaning and cooking, it's the tedious time that comes with it. I guess I will start walking the track at OR every day instead of just every other day.

New stimulus plan

http://projects.nytimes.com/44th_president/stimulus

Well, here it is...
What do you think?

OK?

Well, one for the books. Use steroids, but don't get implants.

Again

Well, another week ends in disappointment. Another email (see Cowards?) telling me that I don't have what they need for a job answering telephones. But, I will go on and will find a job!

My Special Valentine

As Feb. 14 comes to a close, let me share my thoughts... no, my feelings about my special Valentine.

She is everthing to me. She is my strength, my hopes, my soul mate. 25 years we have shared this world together, through good times and bad. She has been behind me, supporting me, pushing me, and most of all loving me, the whole way. She has raised our children and worked fulltime, putting in hours of overtime...

Let me just say, that I will never be able to repay her, as I know that my undying love will never be enough. I thank God every day for her. I love her, my wife, Donna.

Cowards?

Have we become a country of cowards? I have been working for 29 years, and I have been to a lot of job interviews, but it's only been recently that I have started to get rejections thru the mail or emails. No one has been upfront enough to just tell me face to face that I'm not qualified for, or too old for, or even over qualified for a job. No! They send you a letter in the mail, or an email. Not even a phone call! They don't want you to confront them, or tell the real reason ( I mean lie to you ) to your face. Just be honest and tell me, I don't want to wait for a letter or email with the lies of why your not going to hire me.

February

Well, the groundhog saw or didn't see his/her shadow (depending on which one you want to believe), so we will or won't have a longer winter. Still no job... it's looking like I might have to go back into restaurant work again. Still I hope to hear from the Census for about 10 weeks worth of work by March. My friend says they are laying off at work again, Obama better get it in gear soon, or we are going into deep trouble.

Running for office

Well, this is it! I'm running for Tn House of Rep. If your tired of the same ol' same ol', you want to vote for me in 2010. I am not a politician, I am a regular "joe". I won't make promises I won't keep. I'll remember where I came from. All I can say is...Look out Dennis, here comes Tim!

Ah, the paper trail...

Well, the job search plods on. The amount of paperwork that goes with being unemployed is , well.... it sucks. Applications, both, online and paper, unemployment paperwork, man I miss my job! But, God will help me. This is a trial I will overcome with His help. My wife is being a trooper and loves "mr. mom" being at home to do most of the chores of housework.

On a more fun ( for me ) note, one of my all-time favorite baseball players took over as manager of the local minor league team, TN Smokies. Mr Ryne Sandberg! Looks like I'll spend a lot of pre game time trying to get an autograph.

well, so long for now....

Hi

Hi to all!

This is my first attempt at blogging. I hope to be able to keep it interesting.

As of now I am unemployed, I got layed off in Dec. from a good company that just hit a bad stretch ( $1,000,000,000/mth to under $1,000,000/mth). I am currently looking, wish me luck!
